The job

What this actually involves

Siding is the job everyone judges from the street, and the part that's hardest to judge is the part you can't see — the flashing behind the top course, the gap left for the material to move, the fastener pattern that keeps a face board from cupping in year three. I do full exteriors and I do repairs, and on a repair the whole job is making the new section disappear into the old one.

The hard part of a siding job isn't the siding. It's the twelve inches where the new work meets what was already there — coursing that has to line up, a reveal that has to match, a color that has to read the same in ten years, not just on install day. Get that seam wrong and it reads as patched forever. Get it right and nobody notices it was ever touched.

Adaptability shows up here in a specific way: sometimes the answer isn't more siding, it's less. On one job an electrical run needed a permanent, hidden service point in a finished wall. The standard fix is a hinged door with a lock — visible hardware on a house somebody spent two years building. Instead I cut a minimal panel with a multi-tool, matched the paint and stain to the surrounding siding exactly, and set magnets in epoxy so the panel pops off with a finger and holds through wind and vibration otherwise. It isn't cheaper and it isn't faster. It's just right, and you'd never find it unless you already knew where to look.

FAQ

Questions worth answering up front

Can you match new siding to an existing house without it looking patched?
That's the actual job, not an add-on to it. Coursing, reveal and color all have to line up with what's already on the wall, and I check all three before the first board goes up. I'll tell you on the first visit whether your existing material and finish are close enough to match cleanly, or whether a bigger section needs to come off to get a seam you won't find later.
Do you do full exteriors or just repair sections?
Both. Board and batten, lap and shake — a full elevation or a matched repair on an existing one.
What siding profiles do you work with?
Board and batten, lap, and shake are what I install most. If your house is something else, tell me what's on it and I'll tell you straight whether it's a fit for me or a better call for someone else.
Can you hide a service access point in finished siding?
Yes — I've built a magnetic, paint-matched access panel into a finished wall for exactly this reason. It's not a standard listed item because every wall and every reason for the access point is different, but it's the kind of problem I like solving.
