Saved a callback
A handrail landed off-center because there was nothing yet to measure off. Fixing it didn't need a reschedule.
The handrail is metal, and it went in off-center on the post. Not really the installer's fault — at that point the deck was just the picture frame, no decking down yet, so there was nothing on site to measure off.
The obvious fix is to rip it out, get the installer back on the schedule, and wait for an opening. A callback, a delay, and an install do-over for everyone involved — installer, builder, me.
What the rail actually needed right then wasn't to be perfect. It needed to hold, and to sit right until the decking went down and gave us something real to measure off.
The call: shift it dead-center now, with two screws per post instead of the usual four. Come back once the decking's in and set the final two.
One trip instead of two. No callback, no reschedule, no do-over for anybody on that job.
